ATI Graphics Support

Xi Graphics supported the ATI graphics card and Laptop chip products until about the time of the introduction of the R300 chip, at which time ATI declined to continue to provide us with the documentation necessary to write hardware accelerated graphics drivers for the cards and for laptops that employed the ATI mobility devices. NDAs were signed by both parties, but a change in the management at ATI (prior to its acquisition by AMD) seems to have been the reason for the rupture in the relationship. Since then, Xi Graphics has been unable to support ATI products, despite pleadings from our customers to do so.

Actually, some of our customers have moved to Matrox graphics cards and/or Intel mobile graphics in order to get the high performance and stable operation of Summit Series in their platforms. Perhaps one day, ATI (AMD) will reconsider, since the cost to them is basically nil - Xi Graphics develops the drivers on our own nickel.

Comments: Most of the ATI Summit support is contained in the older products - the v2.2 demos. The FireMV products are in the HX v2.4 demos. The v2.2 based products are considered legacy, and are no longer supported with updates. ATI has been mostly non responsive to Xi Graphics' request for chip/cared documentation for past few years.
