Over 100 Million glDrawPixels w/v2.0 (alpha) of 3D Accelerated-X

After some of the "Big Boys" who make a living using OpenGL on heavy iron convinced us that glDrawPixels was important to their productivity and their ability to move to Linux platforms, our design team put some energy into producing a good performance rate for this function. Their work has paid big dividends. The alpha of our upcoming v2.1 3D product line has turned in 103 million glDrawPixels/sec on the RADEON 64MB DDR card. It gets 101 MegaPixels on Rage Fury Pro (with the Rage 128 Pro chip).  These tests were run on our standard 866MHz PIII benchmark setup.  Next request ;-) Check out the v2.1 alpha demo. for RADEON (or Rage Fury Pro)

Dual View Feature on Laptops Defined

We have added a cool feature to our laptop products, starting with new support for the units now going through our labs. (Support for some older models may be added as we can get the hardware in-house for testing). Our definition of DualView feature is the ability to display two different images at the same tims - one on the internal LCD, the other on an external monitor. This feature is in addition to the "int-ext-both" feature we have had for years that allows the same image to be displayed on the two acreens.

DualView has two modes - Single Logical Screen ("SLS") and "Zoom." In SLS mode, the laptop is configured to split the output buffer between the LCD and an external monitor, allowing the cursor to drag things across the boundary of the two screens. In Zoom mode, the laptop is configured to display a small, cursor-movable area on the first screen onto the second screen, enlarged to fill the entire second screen. The resolution of the second (external) screen can be "hot key switched," much as the hot key switching of the int-ext-both feature, to change the amount of "zooming."

There are now three laptops that have 3D LGDs that support DualView - the Dell 5000e, the Toshiba Protégé CTe, and the IBM A20p. These boxes also have 2D support for this feature in the LX product line by downloading the new ddx for the respective laptop from our ftp site.

G400 Driver Now Has "Zoom" Feature

We cranked in a cool feature into the Matrox G400 Drivers - the ability to use the DualHead display in a zoom mode. One display has an image, and the other display zooms in on a portion of the first image. The MX update is already on the ftp site, and we will soon have the 3D LGD updated. Then on to the Pro box. Boy, we sure make work for ourselves, don't we? The update to get the new feature is free.

Support for the Colorgraphic Predator Pro cards has just been released. Both 4-head and 2-head versions in PCI abd AGP formats. Savage 4 graphics chipsets. Appian Gemini Dual View Supported with Multi-head Accelerated-X - Both PCI & AGP

The AGP & PCI versions of the Gemini card with 16 MB are now supported in 2D with MX. This card displays the graphics head output onto two monitors in a "Single Logical Screem" manner. Pretty slick. Runs a Savage MX graphics chip. For more info on the card, see the Appian Page.

ATI's Radeon & 3D Accelerated-X (Alpha) Demo at Linux World Expo

Even with one of the ten tests run by Pro CDRS 02 not using any hardware acceleration at all, the Radeon card and 3D Accelerated-X running Linux on an AMD 700 MHz machine beat the nVidia GeForce on NT with an 866 MHz PIII (weighted average). With nVidia's own drivers. Kinda fun. It's 3D Accelerated-X was v2.1 Alpha code, though, so it will only get better. (SGI told us at the show that the numbers for GeForce on Linux were not available as yet). Do you believe 50 MegaPixels rate for GL_Draw_Pixels? Yup. That's 3D Accelerated-X.

Matrox MMS 4-head Cards Now Supported with MX Server

Starting to sound like a broken record. "More multi-head support." This time it is for the Matrox multi-head cards that have four heads using the G200 graphics chips. Use with our MX box product, a premier 2D multi-head and multi-card X server. (Update will be posted on ftp site Aug 11).  We have been getting a lot of action lately for multi-head support. Seems our *competitor's* products just don't cut the mustard. All you satisfied customers of Acclerated-X product out there should shout from the rooftops about how good our stuff is. Might save a lot of folks a lot of time and grief.

More Multi-head Support

We have just released Multi-head (MX) support for the Voodoo3 cards - 2000, 3000 & 3500 models. These are single head cards that will work with our MX server product.
