The monitor in a laptop/notebook is generally referred to as a "panel" and has an electrical interface called lvds (low-voltage differential signaling). The X graphics driver must be able to deal with this inteface. Since lvds panels are sometimes used in computers other than laptops, those setups are usually supported in the Summit Series for Laptops or Portables.
